WFYC 6th - 8TH GRADE TEAMS

Our Vision

For the 2026 season, WFYC is proud to offer two competitive team options for our 6th–8th grade athletes:

🔥 Traditional Competition Team
🏈 NEW! Game Day Competition Team

Both teams are designed to prepare athletes for high school cheer while building confidence, leadership, skill progression, and strong team culture.

Traditional Competition Team

This division focuses on execution, difficulty progression, and competitive performance quality. Our Traditional Competition Team  performs a high-energy, music-based routine that includes:

  • Stunts
  • Tumbling
  • Jumps
  • Dance
  • Motions
  • Performance

Best for athletes who:

  • Want a full competition routine
  • Are ready for fast-paced, structured practices
  • Want to push their stunting & tumbling
  • Thrive in a performance-based environment

Commitment:

  • Tryouts May 4 - May 6
  • 3 practices/week beginning on May 18, 2026.
  • 2 Stunting Camps + 2 Choreography Days
  • 5-6 competitions (including State)

Game Day Competition Team

Game Day focuses on sideline-style performance and school spirit. Instead of a full music routine, athletes compete in:

  • Crowd-leading cheers
  • Situational chants
  • Band chant
  • Fight song
  • Timeout-style performance

This division emphasizes:

  • Clean, sharp motions
  • Strong voice projection
  • Leadership presence
  • Team unity
  • Authentic game-day energy

Best for athletes who:

  • Love leading the crowd
  • Want to strengthen fundamentals
  • Enjoy sideline-style cheer
  • Want competition experience in a spirit-focused format
  • Are preparing for high school game day cheer

Commitment:

  • 2 practices per week
  • 5-6 competitions (including State)

MORE INFO

What Both Teams Emphasize

✔️ Safe stunt progressions
✔️ Strong technique
✔️ Positive team culture
✔️ Accountability & attendance
✔️ Leadership development
✔️ Preparation for high school cheer

No athlete is guaranteed a specific position. Placement and roles are determined by skill, attendance, consistency, and overall team needs.

Team Placement

Athletes will be evaluated at tryouts to determine the best team fit. Anyone who makes traditional is required to be on the Game Day team as well.

Our goal is not to create “A” and “B” teams, but to place athletes where they will:

  • Grow the most
  • Contribute meaningfully
  • Feel confident and successful

Both teams are competitive. Both teams matter. Both teams represent WFYC.

Did we mention Westosha Central High School's Varsity Game Day team took 8th at Nationals in Disney World this year?!
